"Respecting the elderly" is one of the core focuses of MEAN WELL Group’s charitable initiatives. In recent years, the number of elderly living alone in Hong Kong has been steadily increasing; those aged 60 and above living alone now account for over 4% of the total population. MEAN WELL Hong Kong cares deeply for these elderly individuals and “double elderly” families, and launched a pre-Lunar New Year initiative to distribute 200 lucky bags. Each bag contained festive foods such as canned abalone, shiitake mushrooms, rice, and more, delivering care and warmth so that the elderly could feel cherished during the Spring Festival.
In the "Lunar New Year Lucky Bags – Caring for the Community" campaign, MEAN WELL Group actively partnered with non-profit organizations to distribute the lucky bags. The Christian Action organization, which has been deeply rooted in Hong Kong for 35 years, provides diverse services across all 18 districts of the city. Its mission to understand the needs of elderly living alone and provide community support such as food perfectly aligns with MEAN WELL’s values.
This year, we jointly organized the lucky bag distribution event at Choi Wan Estate in Kowloon. Through in-depth interactions with the elderly, we not only learned about their daily lives but also shared how New Year is celebrated in different countries. At the moment of giving the lucky bags, seeing the elderly smile brightly as they received the heavy bags and hear them sincerely say to volunteers, "May good people live in peace!" was truly heartwarming and deeply moving.
Each lucky bag was not only filled with delicious food but also carried MEAN WELL’s heartfelt wishes and blessings. Through these small acts of kindness, we hope the elderly can feel the warmth and care of society. We believe that every small good deed can ignite the power of love, and through MEAN WELL’s efforts, we aim to further strengthen the spirit of social care so that every elderly person can enjoy a warm and happy New Year.
